Leading the Way in Sustainable Mushrooms
At White Prince, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword – it’s how we farm. Every decision we make helps protect natural resources while delivering the highest-quality mushrooms.
Across our business, we generate 2MW of energy, equivalent to powering 3,000 homes, reinforcing our position as a world leader in sustainable mushroom production.
Solar Power and Water Wise
- 2.2MW of solar across our sites = enough electricity for 3,000 households annually, and it’s all green!
- Water Wise: Only 3L of water per kg of mushrooms, much of it recycled.
- Energy-Saving Infrastructure:
- Chillers with electromagnetic bearings cut energy for cooling in half.
- Steel and aluminium shelving reduces energy use per kg of mushrooms by 30%.
- EFS system captures waste heat to warm air in winter, improving working conditions.
Responsible Packaging
- 100% Recyclable: Our mushroom packaging is recyclable (check your local council).
- Future-Ready Film: Special packaging film is designed to be fully recyclable when infrastructure is ready.
Smarter Growing, Less Waste
- Vertical Growing: More food per square metre, so we use land efficiently.
- Little Waste: Every part of the mushroom counts. Stems become nutritious feed for livestock.
- Spent Substrate: After mushrooms are harvested, it’s sold as soil for turf, landscaping, and viticulture.
- Circular Economy: Everything goes back into the system – soil, animals, and crops.
Cleaner Air & Responsible Transport
- Biofilters: Our compost yard has the biggest biofilters in the Southern Hemisphere, removing 99% of ammonia from exhaust air.
- Low-Emission Trucks: Euro 5 & Euro 6 trucks reduce pollution during transport.
Sustainability isn’t separate from farming; it is good farming practice. Every step we take benefits the environment, the community, and the mushrooms you enjoy.
